Educational call with Nazma Akter, President of Bangladesh Sommilito Garments Shomik Federation, Tuesday, August 5th, 10:00 am EST
04 August 2014
Nazma Akter will be in New York City for a few days next week and we have scheduled an educational session conference call at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 5th [Call in Int’l: 001-303-791-5922 US: 1(877) 326-0011 Meeting ID: *8910615*]. I recognize that this is prime time for holidays, but this is an important opportunity to hear from Nazma about her work empowering workers and her perspective on developments related to the Accord and the government of Bangladesh.
Nazma Akter is president of Sommilito Garments Shomik Federation affiliated with IndustriALL and executive director of Awaj Foundation, a grassroots NGO that’s done a tremendous job of training garment workers, especially women, on a range of issues including labor laws, H&S issues, trade union organizing and health care. She began working in a garment factory at age 11. I met Nazma in April at the Global Supply Chains Summit in London, April 11th, sponsored by the Guardian. She is a dynamic speaker with more than 2 decades of organizing experience. Lauren Compere of Boston Common Asset Management met with her and a group of workers in May during an investor trip to Bangladesh.
I hope many of you are able to participate in this call.
