Socially Responsible Investing in Africa
Roundtable on Socially Responsible Investment in Africa
You are cordially invited to participate in the 2008 ‘Capitalizing on Development High-Level Roundtable’ on SRI in Africa, organized by Africa investor (Ai), the UN Office for Partnerships, the NEPAD Secretariat and the NEPAD Business Group at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, on the 16th of September, 2008.
ICCR is a co-convener of this event.
In support of the NEPAD Capital Flows Initiative and mobilizing responsible investment to African Capital markets, the NEPAD Secretariat and the NEPAD Business Group commissioned Africa Investor to explore the ways and means to attract socially responsible investment (SRI) to Africa.
To achieve this task, Africa investor convened an expert review group, which included the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), Investec, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Fraters Asset Management, to investigate the feasibility and composition of a Pan African SRI benchmark/Index, to bridge the information gap and engage global SRI flows to the continent.
We are delighted to confirm that Africa Investor has developed a set of preliminary principles for an investable Pan African SRI benchmark/ index, based on global best practices adapted to the realities of the African operating environment.
We hope that you will able to join us at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, where we will formally present the Pan African SRI Index and further engage the global SRI community interested in diversifying their portfolios into Africa. The programme and further information will be sent to you on receiving your confirmation.
Please respond to Hubert Danso at Africa Investor to confirm your participation: Tel: +27 (0) 11 783 2431, Fax: +27 (0) 11 784 5569.
