Blue Vinyl Premieres on HBO
With humor and chutzpah, Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Judith
Helfand and co-director and award winning-cinematographer Daniel
B. Gold travel to America's vinyl manufacturing capital and beyond
in search
of the truth about vinyl, America's most popular and second fastest
selling plastic.
Helfand's parents' decision to "re-side" their house with
this seemingly benign cure-all for many suburban homes turns into
a toxic odyssey with twists and turns that most ordinary homeowners
would never dare to take.
This incredible journey follows the lifecycle of vinyl from Long
Island, NY, to Mardi Gras in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to a vinyl
community in Venice, Italy. Along the way, learn how much our reliance
on vinyl (a.k.a. PVC plastic) could be costing communities, workers,
children, our health and the environment.
